DBS Check
DBS Check (Disclosure and Barring Service Check): A process in the UK that checks a person’s criminal record and other official information. This check helps organisations decide if someone is suitable to work with vulnerable people, such as children or adults who need support. There are different levels of DBS check, depending on the job’s responsibilities. It is a mandatory requirement for certain roles to ensure the safety of others. TJJF Instructors, Assistant Instructors and Assistants who work with children are required to complete an Enhanced level check. This is the most thorough type of DBS check. It includes all the information found in a Standard DBS Check (unspent and, in some cases, spent convictions, cautions, warnings, and reprimands). Additionally, an Enhanced DBS Check involves a check of relevant police information held by local police forces, which may include non-conviction information if it is considered relevant to the role. It is also the only type of DBS check that can include a check of the barred lists (lists of individuals legally barred from working with children or vulnerable adults). This level of check is required for roles involving close, regular contact with children or vulnerable adults, such as teaching, healthcare, or social care, to ensure maximum safety.
